The terms Financial Advisor and Investment Advisor are often used interchangeably. While they both have many similarities, there are a few key differences.
Investment Advisor
* Held to a fiduciary standard
(must act in your best interest)
* Provides investment advice
(may also sell investments)
* Fee-only or commission
* Required to disclose conflicts of interest
Financial Advisor
* Not held to a fiduciary standard
(Held to a suitability standard)
* Sells investments

* Not held to the same disclosure standard
